Languages in Eurpe:

With more than 720 or 980 millions; inhabitants and on a surface reduced for an average d' a language for 4,3 million; inhabitants, l' Europe profits from a great et hnoculturelle richness and a plurality from languages. The cultures Germanic, Slavic, Latin and Finno-ugric are represented by the diversity of the spoken languages: 120 languages and dialects have roots Indo-European; Latin and Greek in the south, Germanic in north and the North-West; Slavic with l' is and in Central Europe, only the group of the Finno-ugric languages (gathering Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian) and the Basque language do not form part of the Indo-European languages. Administratively, German, English, Russian, French and Italian dominate but Europe linguistically much richer since the 50 European States (all sovereigns, except Gibraltar) of large geographical Europe gather 35 official languages, is enriched by 225 nonofficial secondary languages. At such point Umberto Eco known as: “the language of l' Europe, c' is the translation”. These preceding figures can appear high, but it accounts for only 3% of the total of the living languages still spoken on planet. In Western Europe (France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, etc) the vernacular languages are often regional and very minority, sometimes at the edge of the extinction, but some (Breton, Basque, Flemish, the last being a dialect of Dutch, are recognized, and taught in France, rather at the University, but sometimes as of childhood: Diwan school in Brittany). In Spain, it is the case of the Basque, the Catalan and the Galician. For the United Kingdom, it is Welsh, the Scot and Irish. French is recognized in Italy in the Valley of Aoste, like are the Faroese one with the Faroe Islands, or the clippings in the Netherlands, etc A single language is officially spoken only in 3 small States: Iceland (where one speaks Icelandic), Liechtenstein (where l' one speaks German), and the Republic of San Marino (where l' one speaks Italian). L' State of the Vatican City (smaller State European) is a case with share: Italian is the common language there, Latin (famous dead language) there is the legal language, French is there the language of diplomacy (the Vatican is made record like French-speaking State near the international organizations), and l' German is the language of use in l' army (Swiss Guard). The other States count all several vernacular languages, as well dialects as languages with share (more or less recognized and often not taught) and until more than 10 for Germany, Azerbaïdjan, Bulgaria,Spain, France, Italy, Romania, the United Kingdom . Vast Russia only gathers with it 43 languages (with official statute) on its territory. Certain regional languages, without official statute (although sometimes doubling the names of communes or streets) persist and are sometimes protected and taught, often with the support of local government agencies or are regional (Breton, Corsican, occitan in France, Sardinian in Italy, Lappish in Scandinavia. The system d' writing in Europe rests on Latin alphabet (under various alternatives), l' Greek alphabet, l' Cyrillic alphabet (under various alternatives). The dream a common language in Europe, such as Ursprache or Esperanto, is not concretized during the XX century. To the languages originating in the host countries are added the native tongues of the circulating (Roms), migrant or taken refuge populations, and particularly l' Arabic, the Berber one, Turkish, Hindi, etc There exist also mixtures which are born in the suburbs from the continent or the overseas territories (creole), of the adaptations (verlan), the languages specific to community or trade associations (Louchébem) including virtual on l' Internet.  Europe was as of l' antiquity with Galien initiator of the creation of the languages known as artificial. These languages were a real object; studies starting from the Rebirth (with  notable exception of the language of Hildegarde de Bingen which was created with the Middle Ages) where l' one knows as from this time an explosion of the number of projects aiming at creating a language of auxiliary international communication of which the most known, l' Esperanto, created in 1880, is always used. In addition to these planned languages there exist languages which were created without rationality such as the lingua franca (mixture; Arabic, of French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian), used by the sailors and in the ports of the Mediterranean during their exchanges.
