Hungary is a republic in central Europe, based on the historic Kingdom of Hungary. To the north, Slovakia and Ukraine to the east and south-east Romania, Serbia and Croatia to the south, and west by Slovenia and Austria .
The arrival of the Magyar tribes under the leadership of Árpád leader from the
plains of Central Eurasia (including the Urals and the Volga) in 896 marks the
beginning of early Hungarian state. Around the year
1000 King Stephen turns to Christianity. During the Middle Ages extend the
Kingdom of Hungary on the southern slopes of the
Carpathians, the Danube plain, encompassing what is now Slovakia, Transylvania,
Vojvodina and Slavonia.
The term "Kingdom of Hungary" is used to refer to
the above mentioned configuration lasting multiethnic territories in order to
draw a clear distinction with the modern state of
Hungary, which is significantly smaller and ethnically homogeneous. Before
and during the nineteenth century, the Hungarian was
already out reference to any resident of this state, regardless of their
ethnicity.
The words in Latin "nati Hungarica" and "Hungarus" referred to all the nobles of
the kingdom. The awareness of "Hungarus' (loyalty and patriotism above ethnic)
occurred among any inhabitant of that State, but according to Esteve Tripartitum
Werbőczy, Nati Hungarica Hungarus or privileged
nobles were only , subject of the Holy Crown, regardless of ethnicity.
The Magyars tend to emphasize the continuity of the Hungarian State and the
Kingdom of Hungary considered as a phase of its historical development. The idea
of continuity is reflected in national symbols and holidays, as well as the
official commemoration of the millennium of history in 2000. According to his
view, the Kingdom of Hungary was a country town in
early Magyar, though without denying the presence and importance of other
nationalities, much less to discriminate them in any way.
The Kingdom of Hungary was with the Kingdom of
England,
the Kingdom of
France, the Kingdom of
Poland, the Holy
Roman Empire and the Kingdom of
Spain one of the
European
powers during the Middle Ages and of the modern era, many of them having already
disappeared today as monarchical regimes.
