The name Japan (Nippon/Nihon 日本, meant literal: ' the origin of sol'), it has a Chinese origin: pinyin rì běn, Wade-Giles jih pen, the east, the place from where it leaves the sun. The character 日 is the evolution of a circle with a central point that represents the sun, and 本 represents the root of a tree and also it has the origin meaning. The expression “country of the rising sun” makes reference to this etimología of the name in Japanese. The name in Japanese, Nippon, are used in seals and international sport events, whereas Nihon is used more commonly within Japan. The western and Castilian version, Japan, come from the Chinese name. The word used in the Mandarin Chinese language to denominate to the country was registered by Marco Polo like Cipangu, probably its transliteration of rìběnguó (Wade-Giles jih pen kuo). The Malayan language the Chinese word was transformed into Japang and later was adopted by the Portuguese merchants in century XVI. These last ones were first in taking the name to Europe.
