Mexico is located in the south of the North American subcontinent, Mexico shares border by the north with the United States and to the south-east with Central America, particularly with Guatemala and Belize. Its surface is of 1.964.375 km ², with a continental surface of 1.959.248 km ² and one insular of 5,127 km ². To this it locates it extension in the fourteenth place between the countries of the world with greater territory. The length of its continental coasts is of 11,122 km, thus occupies the second place in America, after Canada, distributed in two slopes: to the West, the Pacific Ocean and the gulf of California; and to the east, the gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, that comprise of the river basin of the Atlantic Ocean. Distributed in their territorial sea are numerous islands, between which they emphasize the archipelagoes of Revillagigedo (Aid, Clarion, San Benedicto, Divided Rock), and the islands Maria, in the Pacific; those of Guadalupe, Cedars, Angel of Guarda, Crowned, Rocks Contrabands, Island of the Shark, Island of the Carmen, in front of the peninsula of Baja California and the coast of Sonant; and those of City of the Carmen, Cozumel, Women, and the reef Scorpions, in the Atlantic river basin. Altogether they add a surface of 5,073 km ²
