The Romania term, land of Romans, can be applied to the set of territories in which some is spoken of the Romance languages. However, it finished designating to the Eastern part of the Roman Empire, concretely to earth conquered and later colonized of the old Dacia. The fact that the Rumanians use for themselves a name derived from the Latin romanus (Roman in Spanish) he is documented from century XVI, even by Italian humanists who traveled to Transilvania, Moldova and Valaquia. The oldest document in Rumanian language del that has the news is of year 1521, a letter written by Neacşu de Câmpulung to notify to the mayor of Braşov the imminent attack of the Ottomans. In this document, Valaquia (in fact " Valaquia" he is exónimo) is called Ţara Rumânească (literally the Rumanian Country, since rumân meant Rumanian, and was a derivative of Râm, that means Rome). In the following centuries the two forms were used - român and rumân- like gentilicio of the country, but rumân got to mean servant, and, from the abolition of the servitud in 1746, the form rumân disappeared gradually. the România name with the meaning of Mother country of all the Rumanians appeared at the beginning of century XIX.  Rumania and Moldova are the unique countries of East Europe whose official language is of origin Romanesque, and a great majority of the Rumanians feels proud of their Latin origin. The figure of great Roman emperor Trajano (who conquered part of the Dacia) is invoked in the national anthem of the country, composed during the Revolution of 1848.
