The relief of Spain is characterized by quite high,
with an average altitude of 660 meters, and mountainous when compared with other
European
countries, except
Switzerland,
Austria and the
microstates of Andorra and Liechtenstein, whose average height is significantly
higher. In mainland Spain, the relief is built around a
central plateau that occupies much of the center of the Iberian Peninsula and
has an average altitude of 660 meters. Outside the plateau, is the depression of
the Guadalquivir River, located in the southwest of the peninsula, and the Ebro
River in the northeast of it. The main mountain ranges are the Pyrenees, the
Iberian Cantabrian mountain range, central and Betic Cordilleras.
