The Kingdom of Thailand
The country was well-known previously like Siam. This name was changed for the first time in 1939 by Prathet Thai (ประเทศไทย) and again in 1949 (having be reverted during World War II). Prathet means "country" and the word thai (ไทย) means " free" or "freedoom" in the Thailander language, word that also is the name of the majority ethnic group in Thailand (ethnic group that found its freedom more ago than two millenia, when arriving at this region fleeing from the Chinese). This causes that Prathet Thai can be translated like Country of Free People. When being translated to the English Prathet Thai it happened to be Thailand (Earth of the Thai) and from there to Thailand in English
